Covid 19: Considerations for travel during your placement or vacation

Please consider the following if you plan to travel during your time abroad:

  • The appropriateness of undertaking any unnecessary travel at this time and managing your safety and the safety of others if you need/choose to travel.
  • Local travel restrictions in place in your host country that preclude/discourage travel and/or requirements that need to be met in order to travel in country The rules and restrictions that will apply on your return to the UK/your home country e.g. mandatory quarantine (potentially requiring your whole household in your home country to self-isolate): check here for government guidance.
  • Will you be able to return to your host country if you leave? Entry rules for your host country may have changed since you entered/may change whilst you are absent; entry by particular nationals may be restricted, you may be required to quarantine on your return to your host country (and may have to cover the costs of this depending on the local arrangements)
  • Due to ongoing uncertainty and international travel bans, there may be limited flights available, or flights maybe cancelled at very short notice.
  • PLEASE make sure that you have signed-up to receive updates from the FCDO for your location and look at the advice for securing your return. You are strongly encouraged to sign-up to the social media feeds for the British (or your own national) Embassy in your host country.
